Palazzo Sasso Changes Name to Palazzo Avino in 2013, Jun 2013

Ravello, ITALY – (June 13. 2012) – Palazzo Sasso, one of the Amalfi Coast’s most distinguished hotels, is being renamed Palazzo Avino. Beginning January 2013, this stunning five-star hotel located in the medieval hilltop town of Ravello will take its founding family’s name: Palazzo Avino.

Since opening the hotel in 1997, the Avino family has worked behind the scenes to transform the once-crumbling 12th-century “shell of a building” into an architectural masterpiece now home to a world-renowned hotel. The hotel also prides itself on its two-star Michelin restaurant, Rossellinis, which is known as one of the region’s most recognized and creative eateries.

Set on the highest point of Ravello, Palazzo Avino offers breathtaking views of the Amalfi Coast, and features 32 rooms and 11 suites resplendent with Vietri tiles, antique carpets and furniture from the 18th and 19th centuries. The hotel’s Infinito Suite comes with its very own rooftop Jacuzzi; while its wellness spa boasts the avant-garde technology of Carita’s anti-aging products.

Palazzo Avino is the only hotel in Ravello that boasts a beach club. Opened in 2009, it is located just a 15 minute drive away from the property in the small town of Marmorata, the exclusive private beach club includes a casual restaurant, a relaxing lounge, a small outdoor pool and convenient changing rooms. A complimentary shuttle, between the hotel and beach club, is available daily.

Impeccable service has always been the hallmark of the hotel and that will now be emphasized even more, according to Managing Director Mariella Avino. Nothing will change, she assures, except the Palazzo’s name. “The idea of having our family name on the hotel is actually very special for me and my sisters, Attilia and Mariavittoria,” she says. “We have no men in the family besides my father, so our name will eventually disappear. But with ‘Palazzo Avino’ the name will always remain. Our grandfather is no longer with us, but now his name is here forever. I know this would have made him very happy.”

Palazzo Avino is located in Ravello (a celebrated classical music haven), and within a 90-minute drive from Naples Airport. Originally built during the 12th century as a palace for royalty, it operated as a hotel following World War II through the 1970s, but was closed and in disrepair until the Avino family resurrected it in 1997.
